Store Opening Hours For Black Friday

A few hours after Thanksgiving Day dinner, people will be ready to go and line up in stores for their Black Friday shopping, and unlike last year, they’ll be in a hurry because stores will be open earlier this year.

In a new trend to attract more shoppers on Black Friday, the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season, most stores will open earlier, some on Thursday.

Target stores will open at midnight rather than 4 a.m., like last year. Best Buy and Macy’s will open at midnight while the Tulare Outlet Center and Walmart stores in Visalia and Tulare will open at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving night. Taking the Black Friday cake, however, is ToysRUs, which opens at 9 p.m.

Retailers say this is the year of the shopper. With customers continuing to lack confidence in the economy and spending less, stores decided early that something needed to change.

A National Retail Federation survey released this week, estimated that 152 million people are expected to shop over Black Friday weekend, up 10 percent from last year.

More than 50,000 people are expected to attend the Black Friday shopping event at the outlets. Other stores are expecting large numbers as well. And safety is even more of a focus this year, Target store employees said.

Also, for the first time, store employees will allow 100 shoppers in every 30 seconds, rather than the old approach of opening the front doors and having a free-for-all.
