Toys R Us 2011 Cyber Week Sale

Toys “R” Us Inc. will launch its online Cyber Week sale at 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, making the toy store chain the latest retailer to seek an early jump on holiday sales.

The company also said it will start its “Cyber Monday” sales at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27. Cyber Monday, or the Monday after Thanksgiving, is traditionally the heaviest online-shopping day for the holiday season.

Toysrus.com will also have free-shipping offers throughout the holiday weekend and Cyber Week.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) announced last week it will offer free shipping on all electronics purchases over $45 made on its website through Dec. 19 as the world’s largest retailer looks to compete with Internet giant Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) and other chains that have launched similar promotions for the holidays.

Meanwhile, brick-and-mortar-stores like Macy’s Inc. (M) and Target Corp. (TGT) have said they will open their doors at midnight for Black Friday, the heavily watched sales day, and Wal-Mart pushed its kickoff for Black Friday deals to 10 p.m. Thanksgiving night.

Toys “R” Us has made a number of investments to position itself for future growth–including the expansion of its e-commerce business and store conversions to integrate both toy and juvenile products. The company reported in September its fiscal second-quarter loss widened on higher expenses and lower same-store sales in the U.S. while total sales grew 3.2%.
